More than conquerors in the challenges of life

1 Corinthians 10:13 is a verse that I find very comforting and reassuring.

…God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.’ (1 Cor. 10:13, NKJV)

I used to interpret this verse mostly in terms of God protecting from falling into sin. However, a fresh insight on the verse came to me recently. That is, God is able to give us grace sufficient (2 Corinthians 12:9) for challenges we meet in life, not just sin. These challenges include issues at work, home or school. God is able to give us the grace we need. His Word says:

…in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us’ (Romans 8:37, KJV)

… In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.’ (John 16:33, NIVUK)

We do not have to fear. We can meet these challenges in His power and leave the results to Him (Philippians 4:13). Prayer and dependence on God is important.

As we trust and look to Jesus, we can find the strength we need. We are on the winning side. Even if things don’t turn out the way we expect, we know we have a loving God who is in charge and who knows best. And that’s what really matters.

Jesus Christ got the complete victory over sin and death at the cross (1 Corinthians 15:55-57, Colossians 2:13-15). We can rest in the fact that, ultimately, Christ is coming back in triumph and will put all things in subjection to Himself. We are partakers in His victory, both now and when He returns.
